Slow Holidays: The Highlands Of Scotland

It seems appropriate that the year during which everyone was forced to slow down, that our holidays should follow suit. Swapping plane tickets and suitcases for car keys and rucksacks certainly wasn’t how I’d expected to spend my time off in the summer of 2020 but it was an unexpected joy — and finding myself on the Highlands of Scotland was the cherry on the cake.

It’s a disorientating sensation; one moment the world is at your fingertips and the next, the extent of your travel is limited to as far as your legs will carry you. But becoming reacquainted with the natural beauty of my local area was one of the more pleasant surprises of an otherwise challenging year. So, when it came to finding a place to holiday in 2020 the same logic applied. While planning for international travel was complicated by nebulous government travel advice, domestic travel remained for many, including myself, the easier option and Scotland was an obvious choice…
