Forest Bathing – A Restorative Experience

A unique Japanese therapy that has found its way to the United Kingdom, forest bathing is an intimate and meditative experience that will leave you feeling relaxed, restored and in tune with nature. 2007 was a year that saw a momentous shift in the makeup of the world’s population, for the first time in human history the number of people living in urban areas exceeded the number living in rural places around the world. 

At times, such figures can feel damning, and writing from a central London office with a greyish view of cranes handling steel beams, the harsh precipices of office blocks and ceaseless tarmac, it’s difficult to feel any meaningful connection to nature at all. That’s not to say that all those who occupy urban areas don’t interact with nature on a daily basis, whether that’s a detour through the park, a well looked after house plant or a bird-feeder hung by a window; with ingenuity, little slices of nature can be found in even the most citified of neighbourhoods.  But meaningfully connecting with nature – that primordial part of your inner-self – is harder to achieve in the hurried environs of a town or city.
